The Mosaic (2 columns) section displays a flexible collage of feature images and autoplay videos. Mix and match between different size blocks and reorder them to create a promotional feature or lookbook layout. See demo: Chanet
Add and reorder 4 different size blocks to change the layout. Mix and match different types of blocks (solid, image, video) to create an editorial promo or lookbook layout.
Add this section to any template (except Checkout) and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.
Select a Template to edit from the dropdown menu in the top bar.
Under Template, click (+) Add section and select Mosaic grid (2 columns).
Change the order of your sections by using the drag and drop handles ⋮⋮
Click on the Mosaic grid section to open the section settings.
Change the Small heading text that displays above the Heading.
We recommended using the Small heading as a label or category such as "Product" or "Sale".
Change the Heading text for the section title.
We recommended a short title of just a few words.
Change the Subheading text.
We recommend two to three short sentences.
Use the formatting buttons to add text styles, links, or lists. To learn more, see Shopify's Rich text editor guide.
Set the Heading alignment to Left or Center at the top of the section.
Use the Max width of text slider to control the maximum width of the headings.
Use this setting to create a clean visual shape for your text and avoid unwanted line breaks.
(Optional.) Change the Section style to use Contrast colors.
The Contrast style uses the contrast colors in your Theme Settings.
Choose whether to Enable animation to show visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section.
Under Mobile Layout, choose whether to show mosaic block headings Within (overlayed) or After the block.
Click Save.
Add mosaic blocks
The Mosaic section has 4 types of mosaic blocks, which range from Small to Large with Square or Rectangular shapes.
Block types include: Small square, Medium rectangle (vertical), Medium rectangle (horizontal), or Large square.
STEPS
In your theme editor (Customize):
Click (+) Add block and select a Block size.
To create different layouts, mix and match different block sizes and re-order them using the drag-and-drop handles ⋮⋮.
Click Remove block in the block settings to delete a block.
Click the Eye icon to hide or unhide a block.
Click Save.
Solid blocks
Add a background color to create a solid color block with optional headings and button. You can use a solid block to create a block with headings only.
STEPS
In your theme editor (Customize):
Click on a mosaic block to open the settings.
Under Color, click to select a Background color.
(Optional.) To create a block with Headings only use the color selector to choose the same color as your [General background color](contrast colors) in your Theme settings.
Change the Text color to make sure your headings are visible.
Image blocks
Add an image to use for your mosaic blocks. Images will be cropped to fit the block shape: set the Media focal point to position the visible area of the image or change the Media fit to Contain to display the full image.
STEPS
In your theme editor (Customize):
Click on a Mosaic block to open the settings.
Under Image, click Select Image to choose an uploaded image. Your image will be cropped to fit the size of the block.
There are no required dimensions. We recommend images with a minimum width of 2050px for optimal quality across devices.
For Vertical or Horizontal blocks, consider using a rectangular image with a portrait or landscape orientation.
Change the Media fit to either have your image Cover the entire block or Contain the image in the block with its original shape.
Change the Media focal point to select what part of the image to center within the block.
Use this setting to make sure the key part of your image is visible when Media fit is set to Cover.
(Optional.) Select an Overlay color to display overtop of the image and adjust the Overlay opacity using the slider.
The Overlay lets you control the brightness and tone of images. Use this setting to balance it with other images and to increase contrast with headings so they're readable.
Set the opacity to 0% to turn off the overlay color; set it to 100% to create a solid color block with no image.
(Optional.) Click the Overlay gradient option to add a color overlay that fades across a range of hues.
You can choose the style, angle, position, and opacity of the gradient. See Shopify's color gradient guide to learn more.
Add autoplay video
Add a muted autoplay video to use for your mosaic blocks. Videos will be cropped to fit the block shape: set the Media focal point to position the visible area of the image or change the Media fit to Contain to display the full image.

The autoplay video does not play audio. To embed a single video from YouTube or Vimeo with audio, see Ira's Video section.
Click the Upload files button to add your .mp4 file from your computer.
Once your file has been processed, click the Link icon next to the file to copy the URL.
You may need to refresh the page for your file to appear.
In the theme editor (Customize):
Paste the link into the Video link field. Click on the the link that appears in the results above.
Change the Media fit to either have your image Cover the entire block or Contain the image in the block with its original shape.
(Optional.) Select an Overlay color to display overtop of the video and adjust the Overlay opacity using the slider.

Add block headings
Each mosaic block can have up to three headings. Adjust the position, width, and color of your headings to match your image or video.
For mobile devices, you can choose to display headings within or after the mosaic blocks. Click on the Mosaic block section to change the Content placement for the mobile layout.

Use the Text alignment dropdown to change the position of your headings (and button) on the block.
Use the Max width of text slider to control the maximum width of the headings.
Use this setting to create a clean visual shape for your text and avoid unwanted line breaks.
Select a Text container color to display a color box behind the headings.
Select a Text color to match your headings to your brand and make sure the text is readable.
We recommend using WebAIM's contrast checker when matching colors to make sure your text is clear and readable for everyone.
Click Save.
Add block button
You can link to your collections or products or any other page. Add Button text to display a button or leave this field blank to make the entire block a clickable link.
STEPS
In your theme editor (Customize):
Click on the Mosaic block to open the settings.
Select or paste a Link.
Make sure you copy the full URL, including https:// at the start. For example: https://instagram.com/abc123.
Add Button text to display a button underneath the text block. Leave the Button text blank to make the entire block a clickable link.
The most effective button labels ask customers to do something (e.g. Get started, Join us, Shop now). To learn more, read "What is a Call to Action?"
(Optional.) Change the Button text color and Button border color.
We recommend using WebAIM's contrast checker when matching colors to make sure your text is clear and readable for everyone.
Click Save.

Add an mp4 video that has been uploaded to your Shopify Files.
Media focal point
Select the Media focal point to control what part of the image or video to center within the block.
Use the focal point to make sure the key part of your image or video won't be cropped when it overflows the size of the block.

Add mini heading text in all capitals above the heading. We recommended a one or two word label.
Heading
Add heading text to display as the block title
Subheading
Add subheading text to display below the heading. Use the formatting buttons to add text styles, links, or lists. To learn more, see Shopify's Rich text editor manual.
Max width of text
Use the slider to control the maximum width and line breaks of the headings.
Button label
Add custom text for your call-to-action button.
Button link
Select or paste a link for the call-to-action button.
Text alignment
Position the Heading, Subheading, and Button to one of nine quadrants of the block.
Overlay color
Select the text, button, background, and overlay color of the block.
Overlay opacity
Use the slider to adjust the transparency of the overlay color.
