Use Shopify markets to define your audiences.

You can add and edit your markets through your Shopify admin. Go to Settings > Markets, then click ‘Add new market’. Use Shopify's Markets help guidearrow-up-right to learn more.

Before creating your first Customer segment or Shopify markets rule, you will need to set up an API access key.

Steps

  1. Go to Audiences page and click Create new audience.

  2. Enter a name for your audience. You can change the name later.

  3. Select the Shopify market rule type.

  4. Enter your Store API key.

  5. Select 1 or more Shopify markets from the list.

  6. Click Save.

For the security of your store, the Customer segment rule requires a store API access token. Entering your API token authorizes our app to access information from your Customer segments in the Shopify admin.

Set up Shopify admin API

To generate an API access token, you need to create a custom app in your Shopify admin.

You do not need to be a developer or know about coding.

You can follow the steps below to generate an access token that provides access to:

  • Customers > read_customers

  • Markets > read_markets

  1. In your Shopify admin, click gear Settings. * Note this is not "Settings" for the Section Studio app but for your Shopify store.

  2. In the settings side panel, click Apps and sales channels.

  3. Click Develop apps.

  4. Click Allow legacy custom app development.

  5. Click Create an app and enter an App name. For example: "Studio audiences"

  6. Click Create app.

  7. Select the Configuration tab. In Admin API integration, click Configure.

  8. Select the following Admin API access scopes: * Customers > read_customers * Markets > read_markets

  9. Click Save.

  10. Click Install app and confirm the installation.

  11. In the Admin API access token section, click Reveal token once. Copy and save your access token in a secure place.

The Admin API access token is shown only once for security reasons. Make sure to copy and store it securely as you won't be able to see the full token again - only the last 4 digits will be visible on future visits.

Apply API token

Once you have configured your API access token, you can apply it when creating a Shopify markets or Customer segment rule. You will only need to enter the access token once and it will apply to all Shopify markets and Customer segment rules.
