Promote BFCM deals in specific countries

Show custom messaging based on your visitor's location

For BFCM or other sales, you may want to have tailored discounts rather than a blanket discount. With Smart sections, you can display free domestic shipping messages or promote an in-store sale or event.

This tutorial will show you how to add a smart countdown section that display a "free shipping" message only to domestic visitors.

  • Add a section variant with "free shipping" messaging intended for domestic customers

  • Create and assign an audience with a geographic location rule to target your exclusive offer

Add countdown section

To get started, install the countdown banner section and add it to your home page.

We're adding a countdown section for this tutorial, but you can create location-based content using any Section Studio sections.

Duplicate your live theme

In your theme library, duplicate your live theme to create an unpublished copy. You can rename it to make it easy to find.

Install and add countdown banner

On the Countdown banner page, click Install to theme and select your unpublished theme copy. In your theme editor, add the countdown section to your home page.

Set up content and timer

Click the section set up the timer with the end date for your sale. You can start customizing the background and section style.

Click the Content block to add headings and buttons.

Create section variant with "free shipping" message

Now that you have your countdown banner set up, you can add alternate text that tells domestic customers about your free shipping promotion.

Create section variant

Go to the Smart sections page in the app dashboard.

Select the theme and template where you added the countdown banner. Click Add variant. When added, the section variant duplicates the content and settings of the main section.

Enter a name for the section variant: "CAN free shipping"

Add "free shipping" message

Click Customize variant to open the section variant in the theme editor. You can edit the content and styles as you would any section.

Update the heading text to tell customers about free shipping: "Free shipping across Canada"

Remember to click Save.

Create audience with geographic location

Now that you have your variant section, you can create an audience that will see the variant if they are visiting from your country.

In this case, the "audience" is any visitor that arrives at your site within that date range.

Create audience with geographic location

Go to the Audiences page in the app dashboard, and click Create new audience.

Enter a name for the audience. Example: "Canada".

Select the Geographic location rule, then enter a country (or city or region).

Remember to click Save.

Assign audience to your Black Friday variant

To activate your variant, you need to assign the geographic location audience.

Go to the Smart sections page. Click the Assign button in the Audiences column. Select the audience you created.

Publish your new smart section

It's time to take the final step and publish your theme with your new smart section.
