# Collection list

The **Collection list** section displays a grid of selected collections that customers can click to start shopping.

## Set up section

Add this section to your template and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.

1. Select a **Template** to edit from the dropdown menu in the top bar.

2. Under **Template**, click **(+) Add section** and select **Collection list**.
3. Click and hold the drag-and-drop handles **`⋮⋮`** to re-order your sections.

## Add collections

Add up to 16 **Collections** to display in a carousel that customers can click through.

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click **(+) Add Collection** and/or click on the Collection block to open the settings.

2. Click **Select collection** to find and select one of your collections.

   > We recommend adding a **Collection image** in your Shopify Admin. If no image is set, Spark will use a product image from that collection.
3. (*Optional*.) Click and hold the drag handles **`⋮⋮`** to rearrange the blocks:

   > Click **Remove block** in the block settings to delete a block.

   > Click the **Eye icon** to hide or unhide a block.
4. Click **Save**.

## Section content and style

Change the overall style and layout of the section, along with headings and links.

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click on the **Collection list** section to open the section settings.

2. (*Optional*.) Use the **Section style** dropdown to use **Contrast** colors.

   > The **Contrast** style uses the [contrast colors](https://fluorescent.co/help/Spark/theme-settings-colors#contrast) in your **Theme Settings**.
3. Choose whether to **Enable animation** to show visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section.
4. Select a **Text position** for the section headings, either above or beside the gallery items.

   > Choose between *Top left*, *Top center*, *Top right*, *Middle left* or *Middle right* options.

5. Select the number of **Columns** of collections to display at once.

   > Choose between *2* and *4* columns. If the **Middle left** or **Middle right** text positions are used, the section headings display as one of the columns.

   > On mobile, only one column displays at once.
6. To make your images a uniform shape and size, select the **Image aspect ratio** to crop your images to **Square**, **Landscape**, or **Portrait**.

   > The default **Natural** setting will display the original orientation of your images.

7. Change the text for the **Small heading**, **Heading**, and **Subheading**.
8. Use the **Max width of text** slider to control the maximum width of the headings.

   > Use this setting to create a clean visual shape for your text and avoid unwanted line breaks.
9. Click **Save**.

## Settings reference

Click on the section to find the following settings:

| Setting            | Description                                                                                                          |
| ------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Style              | Use the Default or Contrast section style. The Contrast style uses the contrast colors in your Theme Settings.       |
| Text position      | Display header and link text either above or beside the gallery items.                                               |
| Columns            | Use the slider to choose how many items should be displayed side by side. Choose between 2 and 4                     |
| Image aspect ratio | Crop the shape of your images to Square, Landscape, or Portrait. Choose Natural to display the original image shape. |
| Small heading      | Enter text to display as a small heading above the main heading.                                                     |
| Heading            | Enter heading text to display as a section title.                                                                    |
| Subheading         | Enter subheading text to display below the heading.                                                                  |
| Max width of text  | Use the slider to control the maximum width and line breaks of the headings.                                         |

## Select feature collections

Select multiple **Collections** to display in a grid with featured collection images that link to those collections.

We recommend adding a **Collection image** in your Shopify Admin. If no image is set, Spark will use a product image from that collection by default.

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click **(+) Add Collection**.
2. Click on a **Collection** block to open the block settings.
3. Click **Select collection** to find and select one of your collections.
4. (*Optional*.) Add **Subheading** text include a short description of the collection beneath the collection title.

   > We recommend adding subheading text to either all or none of the collection blocks.
5. Use the **Max width of text** slider to control the maximum width of the subheading.

   > Use this setting to create a clean visual shape for your text and avoid unwanted line breaks.
6. Return to the list of your template sections in the sidebar and repeat this process until you've added all the Collection blocks you need.
7. (*Optional*.) Click and hold the drag handles **`⋮⋮`** to rearrange the blocks:

## Section content and layout

The **Collection list** section settings apply to all Collection list blocks. You can add a main **Heading** and **Subheading**, set the number of **columns per row**, change the **Image aspect ratio** (shape or orientation).

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click on the **Collections list** section to open the section settings.
2. Choose to display *2*, *3*, *4*, *5*, or *6* **Columns per row** of your selected collections.

   > On mobile, Collection blocks are displayed in a single column.
3. (*Optional*.) Add **Heading** text to display as a title above the section.
4. (*Optional*.) Add **Subheading** text to describe the selected collections as a group.
5. Adjust the **Max width of text** of the section Subheading using the slider.

   > Experiment with this setting to find a clean visual shape for your text.
6. To make your images a uniform shape and size, select the **Image aspect ratio** to crop your images to **Square**, **Landscape**, or **Portrait**.

   > The default **Natural** setting will display the original orientation of your image.

## Section style

Customize the section **Style** with options for section **Spacing**, **Animation**, and **Alternate section color**.

2. Choose whether to **Enable animation** to show visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section.

3. Choose to enable the **Alternate section color** to apply the secondary section colors selected in your theme settings for colors.
4. Select a **Spacing** option to add padding around the section content.

   > Add padding to either the **Top and bottom**, **Top only**, **Bottom only**, or set it to **None**.

5. Select the **Spacing amount** for the padded sides of the section: **Full**, **Half**, or **Minimum**.
6. Click **Save**.
