# Slideshow

The **Slideshow** displays up to 5 auto-rotating slides to showcase your product images. You can fine-tune how your images look, all slide headings and colors, and add a mobile-specific image for the best experience across all devices.

## Set up section

Add this section to any template (except Checkout) and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Editing a template changes all pages that use that template. To edit specific pages, you can [create new templates](/spark/general/editing-themes/using-templates.md#create-and-assign-multiple-templates) or [insert dynamic content with metafields](/spark/general/adapting-your-theme/dynamic-content-with-metafields.md).

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:blue;">STEPS</mark></summary>

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click **(+) Add slide** and/or click on the **Slide block** to open the settings.
2. Under **Image**, click **Select image** to upload and select your image file.

   > There are no required images dimensions. We recommend images that are **square (1:1)** or **landscape (3:2)** (wider than tall) with a minimum width of **`2500px`** for optimal quality across all devices.
3. (*Optional*.) Under **Mobile image**, click **Select image** to upload and select an alternate slide image that will show only on mobile.

   > You may want a different image that works best with mobile screen dimensions.
4. Use **Media focal points** to specify the main focus of your images. The focal point of your image will remain centered and within frame when your site adapts to different screen sizes.

   > see our [image guide](/spark/general/image-guide.md) to learn more about specifying a focal point for an image used within a section or for an uploaded image file when used anywhere on your site.
5. (*Optional*.) Use the drag and drop handles **`⋮⋮`** to change the order of the slide blocks.

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:blue;">STEPS</mark></summary>

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click the **Slide** block to open the block settings.

   ![](/files/5L4Hy3mqNYrXMsq5aSod)
2. Change the **Heading** text.

   > We recommended a short title of just a few words.
3. Change the **Subheading** text.

   > We recommend two to three short sentences.

   > Use the formatting buttons to add text styles, links, or lists. To learn more, see Shopify's [Rich text editor guide](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-admin/productivity-tools/rich-text-editor#format-text-with-the-rich-text-editor).
4. Adjust the **Heading size** using the slider.

   > Make sure the heading is large enough so it's distinctive and easy to read.
5. Adjust the **Text shadow amount** using the slider.

   > Text shadow can add contrast to make your headings readable.
6. Use the **Max width of text** slider to control the maximum width of the headings.

   > Use this setting to create a clean visual shape for your text and avoid unwanted line breaks.
7. Use the **Text alignment** dropdown to change the position of your headings and button on the slide.

   ![](/files/vsxH2Qe365hBTzZ5J96Q)
8. Change the **Color** for the **Text**.
9. (*Optional*.) Select an **Overlay color** to display overtop of the image and adjust the **Overlay opacity** using the slider.

   > The **Overlay** lets you control the brightness and tone of images. Use this setting to balance it with other images and to increase contrast with headings so they're readable.

   > Set the opacity to **`0%`** to turn off the overlay color; set it to **`100%`** to create a solid color slide with no image.
10. (*Optional*.) Click the **Overlay gradient** option to add a color overlay that fades across a range of hues.

    > You can choose the style, angle, position, and opacity of the gradient. See Shopify's [color gradient guide](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/theme-structure/color-scheme#gradients) to learn more.
11. Click **Save**.

## Add call-to-action buttons

Link to your collections or products or any other page with a call-to-action button. Add **Button text** to display a button or leave this field blank to make the entire block a clickable link.

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:blue;">STEPS</mark></summary>

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click on a **Slide block** to open the settings.
2. Select or paste a **Link**.

   > Make sure you copy the full URL, including **`https://`** at the start. For example: **`https://instagram.com/abc123`**.
3. Add **Button text** to display a button underneath the headings.

   > The entire slide will become a link if no **Button text** is added.

   > The most effective button labels ask customers to do something (e.g. Get started, Join us, Shop now). To learn more, read ["What is a Call to Action?"](https://www.thebalancesmb.com/call-to-action-1794380).
4. Change the **Color** for the **Button text** and **Button background**.
5. Click **Save**.

</details>

## Slideshow height (image cropping)

You can choose to display slides with the **Original height** of your uploaded images (without cropping) or set a **Custom height** for all slides (with cropping).

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:blue;">STEPS</mark></summary>

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click on the **Slideshow** section to open the section settings.
2. Choose to display slides images with a **Custom** or their **Original** height (without cropping).

   > The **Custom** setting will make all slides uniform in height.

   > For the **Original** setting, we recommend uploading images with the same dimensions to avoid irregularity in the slideshow height when rotating.
3. If **Custom** height is selected: adjust the **Height** and **Mobile Height** of your slide images between 50% to 100% of the maximum height.

   > When **Custom height** is set to 50%, the slideshow will always display at half the height of the customer's screen or window height.
4. Click **Save**.

</details>

## Slide autoplay

By default, multiple slides will auto-rotate. You can change the **time between slides** from **2** to **10** seconds. Set the slider to **0** seconds to turn off autoplay.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Turning off autoplay can make your online store accessible to more customers, including people with disabilities. Learn more about [accessibility for themes](/spark/general/editing-themes/accessibility.md) to help make the web inclusive and usable for everyone.
{% endhint %}

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:blue;">STEPS</mark></summary>

In your theme editor (**Customize**):

1. Click on the **Slideshow** section to open the section settings.
2. Click and drag the slider to select the number of seconds to display each slide (between **2** and **10** seconds).
