Video

Theme section

The Video section embeds a video uploaded to Shopify, YouTube, or Vimeo. Customers can click to play longer videos with sound about your store and products.

For autoplaying background videos (without sound), see the Video hero, Mosaic grid, and Image with text sections.

Set up section

Add this section to any template (except Checkout) and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.

Editing a template changes all pages that use that template. To edit specific pages, you can create new templates or use metafields and dynamic sources.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Select a Template to edit from the dropdown menu in the top bar.

Learn how to use templates in our Templates guide.

  2. Under Template, click (+) Add section and select Video.

  3. Click and hold the drag-and-drop handles ⋮⋮ to re-order your sections.

Add video URL

The Video section displays videos hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. Upload a video to YouTube or Vimeo and add the video URL in the theme editor.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click on the Video block to open the settings.

  2. Copy and paste your video link from Vimeo or YouTube into the Video URL field.

Make sure you copy the full URL of your video on YouTube or Vimeo, including https:// at the start.

  3. Click Save.

You can replace the default video player with a custom preview image and a simple play button. This will keep your page looking sleek and tidy.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click on Video block to open the settings.

  2. Add a Featured image for a preview image that overlays the video with a play button.

We recommend using an image from the video. There are no required dimensions. A minimum pixel width of 2500px will ensure optimal quality on the widest screens.

  3. (Optional.) Select an Overlay color to display overtop of the video and adjust the Overlay opacity using the slider.

The Overlay lets you control the brightness and tone of images. Use this setting to balance it with other images and to increase contrast with headings so they're readable.

Set the opacity to 0% to turn off the overlay color; set it to 100% to create a solid color block with no image.

  4. (Optional.) Click the Overlay gradient option to add a color overlay that fades across a range of hues.

You can choose the style, angle, position, and opacity of the gradient. See Shopify's color gradient guide ↗ to learn more.

  5. Click Save.

Section headings

Add a section title and promotional text to your Video section. The section headings are included as blocks nested within the section.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click the Small heading block ("Video") to change the text that appears above the heading.

We recommended using the Small heading as a label or category such as "Collections" or "Sale".

  2. Click the Heading block ("Video section") to change the text for the section title.

We recommended a short title of just a few words.

  3. Click the Subheading block to add a few sentences below the heading.

We recommend two or three short sentences.

  4. Use the Show/hide button (eye icon) to remove a heading block.

  5. Click Save.

Add button

Add a Button block to link to your collections or products or any other page with a custom label.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click (+)Add block and select Button.

  2. Click on the new Button block to open the settings panel.

  3. Select or paste a URL for the Link.

  4. Change the Link text to display on the button.

The most effective button labels ask customers to do something (e.g. Get started, Join us, Shop now). To learn more, read "What is a Call to Action?"

  5. (Optional.) Click and hold the drag handles ⋮⋮ to rearrange the blocks:

Click Remove block in the block settings to delete a block.

Click the Eye icon to hide or unhide a block.

  6. Click Save.

Use the style settings to change the section Heading alignment and apply Contrast section colors. You can also choose whether to show section Animations.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click on the Video section to open the section settings.

  2. (Optional.) Use the Section style dropdown to apply Contrast colors.

The Contrast style uses the contrast colors selected in your Theme Settings.

  3. Choose whether to Enable animation to show visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section.

Learn more about Section animations in Lorenza.

  4. Set the Heading alignment to either Left or Center.

This changes the appearance of all of the heading text and button content.
