“How do article pages on my shop’s blog work?”

You can customize your blog post by post by adding featured images and blog excerpts. You can also choose to show your blog meta data or hide it. Blog meta data includes the publication date, the author name and the number of comments the post has received.

Show meta data
Select this checkbox to show the publication date, the author name and the number of comments the post has received.

To access the Show meta data setting for article pages, you need to navigate to an article in your store while you are customizing the theme settings. If you are having trouble finding the setting, follow these instructions:

  1. Ensure you have an article (or blog post) published.
  2. From your Shopify admin, to the Online Store > Themes page and use the Customize theme button to start customizing your theme.
  3. In the preview of your store on the right side of the page, navigate to an article page.
  4. Open the Article pages settings.

You can set a featured image for each blog post. While adding or editing a blog post, upload a high-resolution image to the Featured Image section. This is the image that is displayed on the storefront.

On the homepage, Lorenza displays featured images as landscape-oriented images (3:2 aspect ratio). Use landscape-oriented images for consistent display with minimal cropping. For more information, about how blog images are displayed, see the How does Lorenza display blog images? section below.

Set up a blog excerpt

You can change the featured text for each blog post. Shopify calls this a blog excerpt. While adding or editing a blog post, you can add the blog excerpt by selecting the Add an excerpt… link underneath the post editor.

How does Lorenza display blog images?

Lorenza gives your featured blog images an extra-wide treatment. It will scale your images so that they fit full-width across the page, and it will crop the top and bottom of your images if they are too tall.

Here’s a diagram showing how Lorenza would crop and image that is too call for the featured blog image container:

Blog image cropping behavior

To avoid too much cropping, use an extra-wide image with an aspect ratio of 2:1. That means you want to use an image that’s twice as wide as it is tall.

For the absolute best results, you can use our recommended image dimensions below:

Width Height
1080 pixels* 500 pixels*

* Recommended image dimensions. This is the exact width and length of the image container that appears on your blog’s index. On mobile devices and article pages, the image is scaled down at the same aspect ratio.
