Template

The About page template provides an engaging way to tell your story. The template includes preset sections to help you showcase your store and vision, share your locations and hours, introduce team members, and let customers contact you.

Quick setup

For your about page, you first need to create a page and assign the about template in your Shopify admin. Then, in the theme editor, you can customize the page template using the preset theme sections.

Tip | Check out Shopify's blog post about what to include in your "About Us" page ↗.

Create page and assign template

In your Shopify admin, you need to create a page and assign the about template.

Shopify | Pages are a Shopify feature: see Shopify's guide for creating pages ↗.

STEPS

In your Shopify admin:

  1. Click Online store > Pages.

  2. Click Add page.

  3. Add a Title (e.g. "About us").

The title will be used for the page URL (e.g. www.store.com/about-us).

You don't need to add anything to the Content field. You will add page content by editing the about template in the theme editor.

  4. [Optional] Under Visibility, you can click Hidden if you don't want to publish the page to your live site yet.

  5. Click the Theme template menu and select about to assign the template.

Note: Templates can't be assigned on unpublished themes. Your changes to templates will be saved and can be assigned when you buy and publish the theme.

  6. Click Save.

Edit about page template

The default about page template includes preset theme sections designed to highlight your store's values, introduce your team, and provide store details and contact info.

We recommend first editing the preset sections and hiding any sections you won't use. Then, you can add other theme sections to further customize your page.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Use the Templates selector to open Pages > About.

  2. Under "PREVIEW", click Change and select the page you want to use for the about template.

A warning symbol (!) next to the page name means that the template is not assigned. Click the page name to go to your Shopify admin, and assign a template.

  3. Edit the preset theme sections to add custom page content and styles.

Use the Slideshow to display images of your store, team, or products.

Use the first two Image with text sections to add text about your store with a feature image.

Use the Multi-column section to add photos of your team, their names, and bio. You can add links to social accounts or individual pages.

Use the third Image with text section to add your locations, hours, and contact info. In the section settings, you can upload an image of a map with your location.

Update the Contact form to get the information you need from customers.

Click the Hide icon or Remove section button to hide or delete preset sections.

  4. Under Template, click (+) Add section to further customize your page with theme sections.

Click and hold the drag and drop handles ⋮⋮ to change the order of sections.

  5. Click Save.

Remember to assign the template and set your page to Visible in your admin.

  6. (Recommended.) Add a link to your about page in the Header and Footer menus.

Add autoplay video

Add a muted autoplay video that loops continuously. You need to upload a .mp4 video to your Shopify admin and copy the link into your theme editor settings.

Note | The autoplay video does not play audio. To embed a single video from YouTube or Vimeo with audio, see the Video section.

STEPS

In your Shopify admin:

  1. Go to Content > Files to open your Shopify files.

  2. Click the Upload files button to add your .mp4 file from your computer.

  3. Once your file has been processed, click the Link icon next to the file to copy the URL.

You may need to refresh the page for your file to appear.

In the theme editor (Customize):

  1. Paste the link into the Video link field. Click on the the link that appears in the results above.

  2. Return to the list of sections to rearrange the order of the blocks:

  3. Click Save.
